These charts indicate how much federal land is owned in each state. Data from the Congressional Research Service breaks down how much land agencies like the Department of Defense, National Park Service and others own in each state, and how much it's changed since 1990.
The majority of federal-owned US land is on the West coast, with nearly 80 percent of Nevada controlled by the government. Since 1990, only two agencies' total acreage β the Bureau of Land Management and the Department of Defense β has come down.
