Workday Caught Blacklisting Millions
A class action lawsuit against Workday has revealed that an AI system is rejecting job applications, potentially discriminating against older workers and those with disabilities. Derek Mobley, a 40-year-old with a disability, applied to over 100 jobs through Workday and was rejected every time, with some rejections occurring within 55 minutes, including one at 1:50 AM. The AI system, Hired Score, acquired by Workday in 2024, was trained on 1.1 billion rejected applications and uses features like 'candidate rediscovery' and 'historical success signals', which may perpetuate past rejections across different employers.
