A German speedcamera took a photo of a speeding truck driver 🤣
It's not that the officers of the Kamen motorway police have anything against animals in general or cats in particular. Nevertheless, they are now sending a ticket to one such animal. Well, to be more precise, to its owner, a lorry driver from Kleve.
In mid-January, he was driving too fast on the A2 motorway at the Kamener Kreuz junction and was caught by a speed camera. The speeding offence was not particularly dramatic, at 6 km/h.
However, the relevant photo caused astonishment and amusement among the police officers.
The speed camera had not only photographed the truck driver, but also a cat sitting next to him at the wheel. The police headquarters in Dortmund, which is responsible for the motorway police, published the photo on Facebook, while exemplarily protecting the personal rights of both the man and the animal: both are obscured by a black bar.
However, in addition to the fine for speeding, they fined the truck driver 35 euros for having the cat next to the wheel. From a purely legal point of view, the cat is considered cargo that must be secured accordingly: "For example, by means of a suitable transport box or special chest harnesses with straps," writes the motorway police. Otherwise, an animal could become a "deadly projectile" in the event of an accident. In addition, cats demand a lot of attention, as the animal lovers at the police force know: "Distraction at the wheel is one of the most common causes of accidents."
