While other countries focus on economic growth, Aussies are more worried about basic needs
While much of the world's developed countries are focused on economic growth, Australians are more worried about basic food and shelter needs, according to new global research. A Gallup survey of 1000 people across 107 countries found that economic concerns were the top issue for 23% of respondents, while only 3% cited basic needs like food and shelter. However, Australia ranked third among high-income countries where these were the top concerns, alongside Ireland and Canada, all facing housing crises.
Australia’s wealth is mainly tied up in unproductive housing. Outside of mining, banking and higher education we don’t really have much of an economy left. Are the chickens coming home to roost?
