Kyle Hunt, a 26-year-old CEO, was served an arrest warrant for an unpaid COVID-19 fine of nearly $10,000. Despite the NSW Government waiving all outstanding COVID fines in late 2024, Victoria has not followed suit, leading to approximately 50,000 fines still in effect. Legal experts argue that these fines are unfair and discriminatory, disproportionately affecting racialized minorities and lower socioeconomic groups. Hunt, who initially ignored the fine due to disagreement with the public health restrictions, eventually paid the fine to avoid arrest.
