Auribook v3 is out
X-post from reddit, I am not the author.
I’m a long-distance runner and I do my runs with only my Apple Watch. No phone. That’s what pushed me to build Auribook in the first place: I wanted a watch-first Audiobookshelf companion that doesn’t fall apart the moment the phone isn’t nearby.
Some of you might remember v1 and v2 since I already posted about them here. Version 3 is released now and it’s not just a small update. It’s vastly improved: UI changes across the app, better podcast functionality, improved overall playback, plus a bunch of other fixes and polish that came straight out of user feedback and testing.
One thing I didn’t expect when I started: I heard from lots of parents using Auribook on their kids’ Apple Watch (paired to the parents’ phone). Also, people have been incredibly helpful with bug reports and edge cases.
New in v3, I’m also expanding beyond “self-hosted only” by adding free public domain audiobooks (classics), so people can use it even without running a server: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/auribook/id6752285662
If you try it, I’d love to hear: what’s still missing for you in an Audiobookshelf companion, especially around syncing, downloads, and playback reliability?
Auribook, an audiobook app available on the App Store, has been updated to version 2.0. The new version offers a public domain audiobook library, an improved download manager, playback progress sync across devices, and a sleep timer. The app is now free with an optional in-app purchase. Users can also enjoy podcast browsing and playback improvements.
