Are people overreacting?

Everywhere I go I keep seeing a lot of hate for AI generated images. Even work that has existed for decades is getting attacked with renewed vigor for being AI. Do we really need all the vehemence and revulsion? Are these people accomplishing anything positive through all this gatekeeping?
