What to do with Dallas City Hall
There are several sides to the current debate over Dallas City Hall. I'm glad these three local architects collaborated and spoke up with their opinion based on their long careers in Dallas.
Several City Hall projects I've been a part of in the metroplex have been trying to create civics spaces that engage and build community much as this article suggests for Dallas.
Architects argue Dallas should re-envision and reinvest in I.M. Pei’s City Hall, transforming it into a civic anchor within a mixed-use entertainment district. The proposal suggests that keeping and renewing City Hall is not only culturally wiser but also fiscally smarter for Dallas residents. The reimagined City Hall district would integrate civic institutions, sports and entertainment, housing, hotels, and everyday businesses to create a vibrant, walkable neighborhood. Instead of abandoning the existing City Hall building, the city can create a continuous, walkable sequence of streets and public spaces that serve citizens and convention-goers alike.
