An emergency or health issue with a pet can result in an expensive trip to the vets, but certain furry friends will cost you more than others.
Forbes Advisor analyzed pet insurance filings, made to state insurance departments, to uncover the dog and cat breeds that cost their owners the most in vet bills.

Key Findings:
- Topping the list for dog breeds is the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, with an average pet insurance claim of $425.
- The Australian Labradoodle is the dog breed with the lowest pet insurance claim, costing owners $226 on average.
- When it comes to cat breeds, the Siberian Forest Cat incurs the highest medical cost at $457 on average.
- Across all breeds, a trip to the vet costs more on average for cats ($355) than for dogs ($306).
