Is the UCP still a pro-Canada party? They might take a vote on it.
The Calgary Herald reports on discussions within the United Conservative Party (UCP) about potentially holding a vote on the party turning separatist. UCP president Rob Smith has indicated that a pro-separatist vote in a provincial referendum would trigger a move. However, Premier Danielle Smith has remained steadfast in her support for a 'sovereign Alberta within a united Canada'. The potential shift towards formal separatism would represent a significant reversal for the party, which was enshrined as federalist in 2017.
At the top level of the UCP they're pondering whether to hold a vote on the party turning separatist.
