Thibault Sottiaux, OpenAI Codex engineering lead, requests developer feedback on long-standing technical and UX issues
The Codex CLI queues model and permission changes mid-prompt.
Many users voiced frustration over persistent unfixed bugs in the Codex desktop app such as broken terminal highlighting, search, and sync that remain annoying weeks later.

@thsottiaux Remote between computers is really broken and unreliable - constant disconnections - inconsistent worktree creation (did it once accidentally somehow) - horrible terminal performance - too hard/inconsistent to “pull from main” before starting new work

@XiangceSun @DhruvJain08 @thsottiaux try adding
stream_idle_timeout_ms = 90000
To config.toml
This helped solve compaction error issue for me

@thsottiaux THE FOLLOWING IS AN AGGREGATE OF ALL MOST PRESSING THINGS (ALL 1300 REPLIES) THAT I COULD MANUALLY FIND IN THIS TWEET (COULD BE A BIT BIAS):

@thsottiaux - “open HTML in codex browser” button is fully broken in remote - model picker randomly disappears - tons of lag when prompts are submitted where the prompt is still in the input box for 2-3s as it persists
@thsottiaux limits are too low
What’s something we haven’t fixed in codex for a while and that’s plain annoying?

Organizing and reading and filtering through skills. We need a revamped Skill organization and filtering and usefullness and skill tracking system it could become something really cool @thsottiaux Also optimizing automations so they actually can always be at say 30 minute intervals on the hour and on the half hour would be amazing right now they drift.

@thsottiaux Codex still has a serious local thread bug: older project chats disappear from the sidebar, though JSONL sessions and SQLite state remain intact. It breaks project continuity and seems known/ reported, yet persists after many updates. Any fix coming?
@thsottiaux codex cli allow changing model or permissions mid prompt which queues it for next round

@thsottiaux compputer use should work in the background in windows, cua did it as well: https://github.com/trycua/cua

@thsottiaux I'm screaming internally every time seeing this🥲
@thsottiaux Not a fix but a feature that's clearly just around the corner and would make life easier; account switching on ios so I can have my work bots and my personal bots on different accounts but control them from the same device.

@thsottiaux Context loss after long chats is still annoying tbh.
You explain the codebase 5 times then suddenly it starts coding like it's never seen the project before.

@thsottiaux I don't understand why Codex is making harder and harder to see how much of the context window is currently used! :)
1. It was originally always visible, 2. then it moved to the pinned summary on the side 3. now it's shown only temporarily for current thread via /status

@thsottiaux On Windows, if you click on the finished notification from codex, you get a big red error.
Oh, and also, computer use and browser use randomly disappeared one day after launch on 🪟. They're shown as unavailable in the settings.

@thsottiaux More plan flexibility beyond the $200 instead of buying credits.
I want to stop thinking about economics and just build.

@thsottiaux Having to stop the agent's response to change the model or reasoning effort. This is especially annoying when I plan with xhigh and want to execute with low/medium and I literally can't do it because plan mode asks me to start executing immediately and I can't switch settings!

@thsottiaux Codex desktop app doesn’t she the context (or am I doing something wrong?)

Computer Use on macOS has been broken for me across multiple Codex updates.
`list_apps` / `get_app_state` still fail with “Computer Use could not start because its runtime app is missing,” even after reinstalling the plugin and granting Accessibility + Screen Recording.
Latest evidence points to signing/provisioning on `http://com.openai.sky.CUAService`.

@thsottiaux 1m context window, history of goals (accidentally cancelled a long written goal and couldnt remember exactly what it was)
