Researcher Rejected Sunflower Drawing Demo for Agent Training
A detailed Windows Paint submission was turned down during data collection for OpenCUA.
TLDR
Bowen Wang a second year PhD student at HKUniversity recalled an early decision made while building OpenCUA. A human demonstration arrived that showed a user taking many steps inside Windows Paint to draw a sunflower and then additional steps to color the image. Wang and the team rejected the submission at once. They judged the activity too unusual to support training of computer use agents. The account comes from someone whose background includes prior work at Tsinghua University Apple Alibaba Qwen and Kimi moonshot. Wang shared the story in a public post that describes choices made during dataset assembly two years ago.
