One computer is often enough for local AI, says a user with an 18-machine lab

The user announced a September 11 session at 10 a.m. PT to walk through six jobs they would give a local AI model on an ordinary laptop.

    TLDR

A user who built an 18-machine home lab says the experience taught them how often one computer is enough for local AI. They say many experiments start with one machine doing one job, repeated until they understand the failures. That usually tells them what they need next. For a planned September 11 session, they said they would use an ordinary laptop to walk through six jobs for a local model.

@hnshahBuilding a home AI lab has made me appreciate how much one computer can already do. A lot of my experiments now start the same way. One machine with one job, repeated until I understand the failures. That usually tells me what I need next. At 10 AM PT today I’m walking through six jobs I’d give a local model on an ordinary laptop. http://hiten.com/local-models-at-work
