Pedro Domingos says human brain learns better than neural networks
Pedro Domingos, Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at the University of Washington, stated that the human brain learns more effectively than neural networks despite having no knowledge of gradient descent. Bojan Tunguz quoted the post as containing multiple points worth examination. Alex Nichol replied that both his own brain and Domingos's brain understand gradient descent, while noting that not all brains do. The exchange compared biological learning processes to mechanisms in current neural network training.
@pmddomingos Bro, both my brain *and* your brain know what gradient descent is. But not everybody's does
Your brain doesn't know what gradient descent is, and learns better than any neural network.
Lots of things here to ponder.
