The distinction between 'RSI' and recursive technological improvement

A writer argues that no single entity is improving itself and that techniques spread fairly rapidly.

    TLDR

The writer argues that most of what people currently call 'RSI' is better described as recursive technological improvement: no single entity is improving itself, and techniques spread fairly rapidly. They also recommend Lem’s 'An Introduction to Bitic Literature,' interpreting it as a preemptive response to Drexler-style Comprehensive AI Services.

@voooooogelspeaking of Comprehensive AI Services, most of what people currently call "RSI" is better described as Recursive Technological Improvement. no single entity is improving *itself* and technique diffusion is (empirically) fairly rapid.
@xlr8harder@voooooogel this is such a good post even though for some reason i started out reading it as leading up to a GNU/Recursive Self Improvement meme (which also would have been good)
@teortaxesTexThe issue with RSI is with the notion of «self». FOOM assumed a mind substrate close to Elisp: virtually no function approximation, just a program recursively editing itself. The current paradigm has no place for a unitary self. It's all about spawning and breeding populations.
