Confession: I've never been a podcast guy, never listened to one fully through. But I'm going to have a lot of 'baby in stroller in the park' time, so it's time to start. Would love recommendations please, don't skip the 'obvious' ones.

AI/governance obv, but also history, politics, philosophy etc, stuff that would be interesting to learn about so that I can make conversation that isn't about dirty nappies. For the AI ones, specific episode recommendations (that have aged well/are still useful) especially helpful.

Users enthusiastically recommend podcasts like Acquired, The Rest is History, and 80,000 Hours because they find them superbly produced, enjoyable, and relevant to history, philosophy, and AI topics.

Speaking from my experience, the shorter ones in the @stratechery podcast family (especially the main one and “Dithering”) are great for new dads. Short, current, razor sharp ideas. @cowenconvos is the other must-listen for me even though it’s a bit long for this dad’s lifestyle (and it’s only an hour.) I have to work hard to listen to anything longer, though of course some @dwarkesh_sp episodes are worth the time. (Once past a couple of hours I find audio books much easier to pick up and put down.) Also have enjoyed many episodes of @david_perell’s “How I Write”.

Philosophize this! It reminds me of parental leave with my first and added so much breadth to my philosophy education. He is also great at weaving a narrative path across episodes while keeping them self contained enough for you to jump around. I think it's the perfect backdrop to spending time with your baby, which makes you ponder the big things while simultaneously being objectively quite boring.

@S_OhEigeartaigh I've become more of an audiobooks person since having my son - really rate Dungeon Crawler Carl and The Splendid and the Vile.

@S_OhEigeartaigh I love @Fall_of_Civ_Pod as a specific lens on history.

Lex Friedman seems out of fashion on Twitter but can be a great listen if you pick episodes.

@Pragmatic_Eng if you pick AI related episodes.

These plus Dwarkesh should cover plenty of your park time :)

@S_OhEigeartaigh Not related to any of the topics you listed (maybe history-ish) but I love Acquired! Superb work put into each episode.

@S_OhEigeartaigh BBC Sounds - I get Newscast, The Global Story, Radical with Amol Rajan; Strong Message Here & Friday Night Comedy to lighten the tone. Start the Week and some of In Our Time to get "in a tutorial and didn't do the reading" nostalgia.

@S_OhEigeartaigh For short form, I'd skip the empty calories of Serial but S-Town is legitimately good, holds up very well.
