What public uses are there for AI labs' usage statistics?

A user who has long advocated for usage statistics says frontier AI labs now publish them, but remains unconvinced that stakeholders make adequate use of the data. They ask whether their uncertainty reflects a lack of public evidence or a gap in their own knowledge.
