If you want to lead technically-grounded, frontier AI governance research that can respond to the ongoing unfolding waves of shocks that powerful AI is going to induce, this is the place to be! We're working on technical alignment directions, regulation of AI systems and companies, and broader societal adaptation to powerful AI. Note too that we've listed the 9 month salary, but there's more to the position than that, with the prospect of steady grant funding, rails already in place to support complementary outside appointments, and the potential for significant startup support for folks who want to build their own lab. We think that independent, public-interested research in AGI governance should be properly funded, and you shouldn't have to take a vow of abstinence in order to pursue alternatives to the private sector.
