ResearchTrails traces scientific decisions through Git commit histories

The ResearchTrails team says its dataset draws 599 trajectories comprising 13,271 decisions from Git histories associated with NeurIPS 2022–2025 papers, including superseded and abandoned approaches. In the team's test of next-decision predictions, skills distilled from trajectories scored 1.62 on a 0–4 similarity scale, versus 1.33 for skills derived from final papers.
