A research agenda for human-AI collaboration beyond automation

AI as Normal Technology argues that AI research focuses too heavily on automating labor. Its proposed agenda calls for agents that show their intermediate steps, respond quickly enough for real-time interaction and support continuous work with people. It also calls for evaluating how well humans and AI work together, and favors bottom-up experimentation and targeted policy over bans on automation.
