Nate Soares Voices Annoyance With EA Over AI Talent Pipeline

I'm wary of the narcissism of small differences. I also have annoyance with EAs for feeding talent into the doomsday engine & for doing a lot of softpedaling around AI. (I also appreciate EA efforts to improve existing lives.) Idk yet how to juggle all this gracefully.

@ben_j_todd The softpedaling is more common among policy folk, ime. But yeah also there's a trend where a ton of EAs are just barely optimistic enough to keep feeding the doomsday engine & to avoid the personal costs of sounding alarmist, and I'm suspicious of it.

I feel like I've tried to be pretty direct about my view of the risks, even when they were much more fringe. I think the difference in messaging and strategy comes more from my p(doom) being lower. (And of course I could be totally wrong, but that seems the key problem rather than softpedaling?)

@ben_j_todd (tbc I'm happy to argue on the object level if you'd like)
