    TLDR

A user recalls Anthropic’s 2020 pitch as arguing that the best way to study AI safety was to be a fast follower, not to advance the capability frontier. They say they were skeptical of that premise then, but “times have changed.”

@RishiBommasaniAs I remember the Anthropic pitch from 2020, the premise was the best way to do safety was from second place. Don't advance the capability frontier, but be a fast follower to study safety at the frontier. I was skeptical of the premise then, but times have changed.
