    TLDR

Paul Graham, co-founder of Y Combinator and previously of Viaweb, posted that one indicator of LLMs being significant was the level of surprise among insiders who understood the technology best. The statement appears in a public post referencing his experience with the tools. No further details on reactions or related events are provided in the packet. The remark stands as his direct comment on the development of large language models and the reactions from those closest to the work.

@patrickcOverall, I’m very surprised at how little media coverage there’s been around the the OpenAI / Hugging Face attack. It’s clearly one of the most important things to happen this year.36d
@iamtraskI think the problem is that kindof no matter how you look at it... it's not surprising. - Layman: oh another company got hacked. seems to be happening a lot these days. how bout that ballgame tho? - AI Safety: we said bad things would happen and they did. - Corporate Responsibility: OpenAI moved fast and broke things... weren't they always doing that? - ... Like even if it's bad... there's lots of bad stuff happening in the world. 175,000 people die from heat in Europe every year... 40,000 die from car crashes in the US each year... and that's not really news either. There's just no angle from which it's particularly surprising...36d
@TheStalwart@patrickc If it’s such a big deal, why are the big AI companies not treating it as such?36d
@paulgOne way I knew LLMs themselves were a big deal was that the people most surprised by what they could do were the insiders.35d
