Closing arguments begin in Elon Musk OpenAI lawsuit
Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft reached its final day with closing arguments at the Ronald V. Dellums U.S. Courthouse in Oakland, California. The presiding judge first delivered instructions to the jury, a process expected to last about 30 minutes. The case centers on claims that OpenAI abandoned its original nonprofit mission for commercial priorities, with Microsoft participating as OpenAI's primary financial and technical partner throughout the proceedings.
π Today is the final closing arguments in the Musk V. Altman trial.
Many don't understand what Elon Musk is trying to achieve from this trial.
The answer was revealed by this contentious exchange between Judge Gonzales, Elon's Lawyer Molo and OpenAI's lawyer Bill Savitt.
After Steven Molo literally said "we're not asking them for money" π
P.S - It's about money, as it's always is. In this case, potentially billions of dollars in restitution.
more details:
I don't understand how this trial barely gets attention here on X. OpenAI's future hangs in the balance here, @elonmusk is looking for $135B in monetary damages (to go to the Non Profit) and the removal of @sama and @gdb + restoring OpenAI's original non-for-profit structure. The Jury will apparently only decide on wether Sama/Greg broke charitable trust, and created unjust enrichment, and the judge will decide, separately, on the damages.

todayβs lunch, for those awaiting
lmao, Musk's counsel going after OpenAI's execs, altman and brockman, and has the mugshot-style photo of altman on the screen again
"battle of the photoshops" of executives in the trial has been entertaining to watch
sorta feel bad, but not that bad, for the A/V guy throughout this trial feedback, dropping mics, video feeds funky. we need to revamp this place
Musk's counsel going back to hammering a point they have made over and over
it's an argument essentially painting a picture: "Sam Altman, Liar."
chipping away at witness credibility has been a core strategy for the plaintiffs' side

and we're back to "everyone hates google" again
Molo using Larry Page, who they claim doesnt care about humanity, as a foil to the noble musk whose only care w/r/t AI is the future of humanity

also Musk's side has a pic of elon and altman on the screen now. sam's looks like he's about to be processed by a U.S. Marshal. Musk's looks like he's getting ready for the met gala
lol

lots of Musk side closing arguments = semi-populist tack of pointing at OpenAI and saying these billionaires are making gobs of cash while running a charity for the supposed good of the world!"
am curious if jury can register this argument even as it comes from *Elon Musk*
forgot to eat my banana for breakfast so my stomach is making garbage disposal sounds
ouch. OpenAI counsel begins closing arguments with a broadside against Musk:
"Even the people who work for him, even the mother of his children, cant back his story."

oh hell yeah back to the war of the photoshops
OpenAI closing remarks now and in the digital displays on the monitors for exhibits, all the OAI executives look like Olan Mills photo shoots (complimentary)
Musk's headshot is a big ol' frown lol

short summary of the closings:
Musk Camp: "all of these OpenAI executives are rich as hell and lying all the time"
OpenAI Camp: "all of that is a sideshow and literally all the claims musk is bringing cannot be stood up by actual law"
MSFT Camp: ::disappears into bushes::

OpenAI counsel damning Musk with some interesting superlatives...
"Here you have one of the most sophisticated businessmen in the history of the world....and he claims he didn't read a four page summary term sheet. ....Ludicrous"
(this term sheet important b/c it establishes timeframes for statute of limitations)
the gamer has entered da blog π€
i am fucken tired

i was too excited for lunch and was the last person back in court BUT i did slam an iced americano, feel like a new man
OAI counsel Savitt giving the denouement in closing now
okay thank god we are getting a luxurious THIRTY MINUTE recess, the most we've had in a month i might actually be able to go outside and get real food there's a popeyes across the street. is it a bad idea to get a bucket of red beans and rice....
Musk side is objecting quite a bit during OAI's side closing arguments
which is likely strategic b/c it messes up the cadence of the close
omfg there is an INCREDIBLE photoshop of this from OpenAI side of an Ant becoming a huge pink cat ilya sutskever, thank u for your beautiful metaphorical mind lending itself to the photoshop guy making this graphic
(i'm looking at savitt's face each time Molo objects and he's like "bro....")
Musk side is objecting quite a bit during OAI's side closing arguments which is likely strategic b/c it messes up the cadence of the close
Savitt shredding Musk to finish.
"My clients are here....[points to altman, brockman, achiam], Elon musk is not."
basically pointing out how Musk isn't taking this case seriously
been doing court reporting so long now that i actually look forward to powerpoints, which feels like a cry for help
okay i gotta go but Savitt's closing note:
adorable moment where savitt says "i feel like im going to miss you all" with the jury and they sorta start smiling and chuckling

last day of trial vibes = last day of school vibes
