Strange Loop Canon writer Rohit Krishnan questions if investor Michael Truell holds a larger SpaceX stake than Gwynne Shotwell
Story Overview
Rohit Krishnan's question highlights how a blockbuster acquisition can scramble perceptions of ownership inside one of tech's most valuable private companies, pitting a 25-year-old AI founder against a veteran operator whose stake has long been treated as foundational.
Deal math stays hidden from view
SpaceX's all-stock purchase of Cursor leaves the precise number of new shares issued unknown, so claims about relative sizes rest on rough founder-stake estimates rather than confirmed figures.
Older snapshots limit direct comparison
Available public guesses for Gwynne Shotwell's holding predate the Cursor transaction, making any post-deal ranking impossible to verify without fresh disclosures from the company.
Users reacted to questions about whether Michael Truell owns more SpaceX equity than Gwynne Shotwell, with positives viewing large holdings favorably for both while negatives called the idea ridiculous or unfounded.

@MattMoynihan1 10x what she does today, at least

@MattMoynihan1 Relative ownership, length of service, importance to the company
@krishnanrohit to the moon
So Michael Truell owns more of SpaceX than Gwynne Shotwell?

@krishnanrohit Not disagreeing. Is that 10x number based on company performance? Because of relative ownership of its founders? Can you explain your rationale?

@krishnanrohit How much do you think Gwynne should own?

@krishnanrohit No one said building a galactic empire would take the obvious path

@krishnanrohit my assumption is that she's sold a lot over the years

@krishnanrohit As per the TAM from their S1, Spacex is ~85% AI company so it tracks wrt to future? Even tho it is indeed bonkers

@krishnanrohit @MattMoynihan1 Founders get outsized returns because of risk. Shotwell is elite but she didn't take a huge risk.

@krishnanrohit The founding eng negotiated for 2 yrs of salary in escrow. Idk about Gwynne’s, but Elon has clearly been generous with equity given that early tradesmen are multi-millionaires now.
Nobody is saying Gwynne isn’t important, but seems like many capable people wanted different risk.

@krishnanrohit yep, she probably sold a lot of stock over the years

@krishnanrohit The cap table is the org chart …

@DanielleFong on that note https://www.planetary.org/articles/the-quasi-moons-of-earth

@krishnanrohit Good for Michael and Gwynne. This is like arguing OpenAI has to be less valuable than adobe

@krishnanrohit Ridiculous if true

@MassiBuilds @krishnanrohit @MattMoynihan1 Steve ballmer got more from non c suite equity

@krishnanrohit Your grievances are stupid. Shotwell probably doesn't even know you and she is happy.

@krishnanrohit Michael will have his share locked up. Gwynne has liquidity. Very different circumstance.

@kyawzazaw @krishnanrohit @MattMoynihan1 Congratulations to him. Doesn't mean Shotwell was unfairly treated or deserved more. I'm guessing she's pretty happy, and unless she tells us otherwise, we shouldn't pity her position as that's demeaning.
