Code pushes to GitHub reached 17.9 billion in the year ending September 2026

GitHub’s 2026 Octoverse report says developers pushed code 17.9 billion times in the 12 months ending September 30, more than in 2024 and 2025 combined. It counts 34.3 billion commits and 1.3 billion merged pull requests, averaging 3.5 million merged pull requests a day. GitHub says developers started more than 40% of pull requests with an agent as of September, up from 17% in March.
