Researchers introduce PanoTac, a three-axis tactile fingertip for robots
Its touch feedback reportedly helps a robot detect when a test-tube stopper releases.
TLDR
To help a robot decide when to stop wiggling a test-tube stopper and start lifting, PanoTac combines normal and sideways touch feedback. The researchers also tested grain scooping and salt pouring. Across those tasks, the PanoTac system reportedly achieved 91.7% full-task success, versus 45.0% for a vision-only baseline. Those figures describe the team's reported experiments, not a general success rate for robots.
