OpenAI chief futurist Joshua Achiam departs the company after seven years
Achiam says there was no single reason to leave, and that work on safe AGI now feels possible outside a frontier lab.
“There’s not a specific reason for me leaving, or a specific reason for why now. But it’s something I have been thinking of for a while and it feels right.”
Joshua Achiam@jachiam0TECH#173Joshua Achiam said in a post on X that he is leaving OpenAI later this month after joining as an intern in 2017, writing that there was "not a specific reason" for the move and that it now feels possible to work on the AGI mission "from outside the walls of a frontier lab." WIRED and The Verge both reported that Achiam is departing after nearly nine years at the company.
“surprising. Achiam was a very consistent OpenAI loyalist.”
