Honestly, I no longer believe that people outside the U.S. will still have access to frontier models, and even there, access will be limited.

@iruletheworldmo The more I think about it, the more I see the possibility this is a temporary blip. Akin to the Y2K panic, or the government restricting GPS access until they realized "might as well let everyone have access to the good stuff."

It would also give the Trump administration a huge bargaining chip. The EU and the UK have already met with the admin over Fable. If they did start US frontier exclusivity now, and started a whitelist for trusted allies and partners, a lot of nations would fall in line.

@DaveShapi yeah that’s my hope to i just fear the pace of progress will blind them. whilst i doubt the progress itself will stop, the downstream effects are terrifying to me

We need papa Elon to chime in. This feels like the scenario he’s been against which is why he wanted open source models. Not only do we have close source models, a small group of elites get access to super intelligence while we get drip fed old models and the government is a second layer gatekeeper. Yuck.

@iruletheworldmo Calm down. Clearly there must be a release pipeline where the capabilities have to be tested first against existing infrastructure and software, FOLLOWED BY PATCHES AND FIRMWARE UPDATES, and then once that is completed, then releases can happen. This seems patently obvious.

@iruletheworldmo If they are really holding us back like this we’ve lost the ai race. It’s not about who gets there first it’s about what innovations you’re allowed to create with it. I don’t see china putting the brakes on.
@iruletheworldmo The American population will never get a model more capable than Opus 4.8. They will ship various things to make you think you're getting something better, but in the end, the wall has been erected between the haves and the have nots.
