    TLDR

Katie Parrott announced the release of Compound Writing, Every's second compound plugin. The tool enables users to install her documented habit of overthinking paragraphs when prompting AI models for writing tasks. She began development last winter by directing Claude 4.5 to build the feature after first installing the Compound Engineering plugin. Colleagues Dan Shipper and Kieran Klaassen quoted the announcement and highlighted her contributions. A public guide appears at every.to/guides/compound-writing.

@everyTwo years ago, Katie Parrott turned to ChatGPT because she couldn’t afford a career coach. Today, she’s open-sourced the writing system that grew out of it. On this week’s AI & I: @kplikethebird on turning two years of AI habits into compound writing—a system any writer can use. A few highlights: Good writing starts with good ingredients, not clever prompts. Parrott built her AI habits on the same foundational documents she used as a content marketer — audience personas, brand positioning, differentiators — long before “context engineering” had a name. Writing with AI brought back her love of writing. Handing the grunt work to AI freed up the energy to focus on harder, bigger-picture questions — and made the process feel like exploration again instead of a slog. She turned her own process into an open-source plugin. Modeled on Kieran Klassen’s compound engineering plugin, compound writing walks any writer through the brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and editing steps Parrott uses herself — including review “skills” modeled on writers like Kurt Vonnegut and Alfred Hitchcock. Watch here or on YouTube, or listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. 0:00 Start 0:49 Introduction 1:21 How Katie went from being laid off to using ChatGPT as a career coach 8:06 Turning AI into a “content agency of one” 10:59 Building the context files and style guides that make AI outputs useful 14:15 What makes a Claude project actually work 21:18 How AI helped with a mental health crisis and “computer errands” 27:03 Katie’s career coach, now a fully autonomous Codex project 32:27 What compounding means, and building the Compound Writing plugin 38:00 Borrowing Vonnegut, Hitchcock, and Sorkin as AI editing skills 44:49 Katie’s thesis: education and access will matter more than ever
@kplikethebird[Channels Mariah]: It's tiiiiiiiiiime! Today @every is releasing Compound Writing, so now you - yes, you - can install my tendency to overthink a paragraph. I started this past winter by pulling down the Compound Engineering plugin and telling Claude (4.5 at the time, what a model that was, “I want to build this but for writing.” I’ve spent the last six months building and writing with and adding to and tweaking it. The plugin gives Claude Code and Codex skills for interviewing you about an idea, shaping a draft, and questioning whether your argument holds up. When you figure out something useful about your writing, you can save it as guidance for the next piece instead of having the same conversation with the machine indefinitely. I’m standing on the shoulders of giants here in the form of @kieranklaassen and @danshipper, whose work on Compound Engineering and agent-native architectures informed the evolution of this project - what, why, and how. My process, and this plugin, is one way to write with AI. Someone else could start with the same tools and build something completely different, and I’d love to see it. You can use the whole process, borrow one editing skill, or write every word yourself and ask for feedback. No obligation to adopt my entire collection of hang-ups. My hope is that Compound Writing gives you a new playground to discover your own process and grow as a writer. I’ve written a guide to getting started: https://every.to/guides/compound-writing [link]
