@svpino This “go-to-office” culture is a micromanager’s dream and a way for higher-ups to feel a sense of authority.

For governments, it helps sustain the economic activity built around office districts I believe.

Very little of it has anything to do with the quality of work.

@typesfast @HarryStebbings I’ll say this in simple terms you might understand. I was a major driver for adding 1/4 to 1/2 billion in equity value to the AuditBoard sale in 2024. I’m going to do it again where I’m at now. All from Wisconsin in my simple office.

@svpino In larger organizations, at least some time in the office is rather essential imo. Establishes a common work culture, and helps everyone involved build relationships, which is also quite helpful when it comes to getting things done across teams.

@svpino 10000% agree. I would like the option to go in and hang out and do work when I want. But working from home is magical. I feel like a slave when I'm required to go in every day also.

@svpino Hard to be a 'modern slave' when autonomous agents are picking up all the tedious office work.

Weird how hoving to go to an office to do work that you are getting paid for is being villainized by so many. Nobody complains about people going to an oil well to work, or to a McDonalds, or an auto plant. But make someone go to an office and it's an enormous injustice and indictment of corporate culture.

@capeandcode @svpino If he can't work behind closed doors at home I wonder how he can work with an open office with people coming and going all the time, chit chatting and interrupting all day long without even a door.

It was built for paper work, letters, telephone era... Now we have ubiquitous high speed internet, laptops are powerful as desktop workstation, everything is on cloud anyways and collaboration tools are plenty.. Great video conferencing tools.. If i am in my old job at Dubai, i can do 90% of what i used to do there from a beach in bali from my smartphone (may be galaxy fold at best).

But when you are building and collaborating, a desk with an extra ultrawide monitor and comfortable headset helps... Thats it.

Life is so expensive he can't afford a full-day daycare.
