Viewers critique authentic Monet as flawed AI art
A genuine Claude Monet painting was posted online presented as an AI-generated image. Viewers offered detailed critiques on its technical flaws, composition issues, and supposed inferiority to traditional art. The reveal of its true origin produced widespread reactions that documented how initial assumptions about AI creation had shaped the specific commentary.
You're telling me that the way we relate to art depends the viewer's belief about the artist's intention and historical context in which the piece was produced? You're telling me this for the first time.

I just wrote a novel that is word-for-word identical to Don Quixote. Please describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Cervantes novel.
@pfau i greatly prefer pierre menards

Priming, bias and social signaling are powerful forces in human judgment and decision making.
What happens when you post a real Monet and say it’s AI? The coolest art social experiment I’ve seen in a while. Thank you @SHL0MS
They did an experiment like this with wine tasting. Mislabel a very expensive wine and even experts will call it poor. But the thing is that different wines do taste different, expensive ones really are (often) better than boxed wine, and the real issue is that people are lazy and default to the label instead of thinking.
In short this isnt a post about whether ai is good or bad, its a post about how brainless use of social media is terrible and will kill us all

This has been studied for years. It is called the effort heuristic, and it is a form of cognitive dissonance. AI is just 100xing it.
In 2004, a study showed that participants consistently rated identical creative works (poems, paintings, crafts) more favorably when told they required more time to create. This effect persisted regardless of expertise and was stronger when quality was ambiguous.

It’s a real Monet and everyone jumping in to criticise why it’s not good compared to a ‘ real ‘ Monet just shows where we’re at with ai art lol
In hindsight Shl0ms really should've disclosed upfront that the painting was done by Claude
most beautiful piece of art in a while
Incredible

so this guy asks people to critique an ai generated painting in the style of monet
but it’s actually a real monet
hilarity ensues
art is a story. when you change the story, you change the art.

Most people think they are seeing reality when all they really see is screened and filtered by what they believe.
They can look right at something and literally not see it at all.
It is as if they are moving through life with eyes closed imagining their eyes are open.
