I somehow used to have this mental model that the time to really do algorithmic game theory, mechanism design, was around 2005-2010. But perhaps a better time is likely now, given the proliferation of agentic marketplaces, and the need for more reasonable and robust design.

The earlier moment was more about "how do we design algorithms for markets?" Now it is more like, how do we design markets with some essential desiderata, in which algorithms are not only the market participants, but also the intermediaries, and the designers.
