Falcon 9 Upper Stage Set to Strike Moon

SpaceX reported that its January 15 2025 launch of Blue Ghost Mission 1 and ispace’s RESILIENCE landers left the Falcon 9 second stage on a trajectory that ends in lunar impact instead of ocean reentry. Brian Roemmele posted that the roughly four-tonne stage would hit near the Einstein crater on August 5 2026 and create a fresh crater. Danielle Fong shared that no verified images or video of the strike have appeared and that circulated visuals are fakes.
