The case for independent oversight before Google races to develop superintelligence

An AI researcher says Google currently lacks the binding, independent governance and oversight they believe safe artificial superintelligence (ASI) development requires. They argue Google should not race to develop ASI, whether it is leading or catching up. They are unsure what mix of corporate governance and government oversight would work, and say a larger government role would not guarantee effective oversight. For now, they prefer not to contribute.
