Sundar Pichai says the prototype booted its onboard TPU and returned a haiku after a command was sent to orbit.
TLDR
After an Oct. 1 launch, Google’s Project Suncatcher prototype ran a prompt on an onboard Gemma 4 model and sent a haiku back to Earth, according to Google’s Travis Beals. Sundar Pichai said his team received its first complete response back on Earth, a haiku. Google plans further tests of TPU performance under thermal stress and radiation exposure, with twin interconnected satellites as its next milestone in 2027.
