The lab that has been asking the world to slow down published new numbers: as of May, Claude authored more than 80% of the code merged into Anthropic’s own systems. Engineers were shipping about eight times as much code as in 2024, mostly by directing Claude rather than typing. The company says it is not yet at the point where a model can fully design its successor on its own — humans still pick the goals. It also says that if that loop ever closes, control gets harder, not easier. The public is being asked to pace the frontier.
