    TLDR

Joshua Achiam, Chief Futurist at OpenAI and author of Spinning Up in Deep RL, wrote that a token tax will eventually become a compute tax and then an energy tax. He called this progression the long march to the simplest legible measure that will continue until it reaches physics too basic to reduce. The statement appears in a post quoting his words on AI-related taxes.

@jachiam0Token tax will eventually be compute tax will eventually be energy tax. The long march to the simplest legible measure will continue until it touches physics too basic to reduce
@bayeslordI almost said this but then I thought like, it’s hard to know when and the amount we want to allocate to people is conveniently proportional to sales, hence a corporate tax? (you could in principle have weird super vertically integrated Elon economy style stuff which is trickier) Wdyt
