New Jersey Bill Requires Multi-Sensor Hardware for Robotaxis, Targeting Tesla
A small X flare-up over a New Jersey proposal turned into a familiar fight about safety rules, hardware mandates and whether regulators should pick a technical stack.
A proposed New Jersey robotaxi bill drew backlash on X after aviation startup founder Blake Scholl and others linked to a post by Nic Cruz Patane describing the measure as requiring cameras plus two additional sensor types, such as LiDAR and radar, along with 50,000 supervised miles before full driverless operation. As described in those posts, the rules would exclude Tesla's camera-only approach if enacted.
