Anthropic's misalignment risk analysis draws agreement on low risk — and significant disagreements

METR says it agrees with Anthropic that the risk of catastrophic harm from covered models' misalignment is low, but has several significant disagreements with Anthropic's analysis. Its review concerned a nonpublic version of the “Misalignment in high-stakes settings” section of Anthropic's August 2026 Risk Report.
