@timhwang I think this kind of work is important and that we should be distinguishing different categories of relationship to AI. I'm not sure that pathologizing them or using the DSM framework is net positive though. implies a heavy normative view over behaviors that might be adaptive

That is assuredly right and I think this is the intellectual work I would like to do: what behaviors are genuinely adaptive? What are clearly pathological? The technology is - in essence - upstream of our psychotherapeutic agenda.
The place where this comes out most obviously in the draft DM-AID taxonomy is "delusion": clearly imputation of an inner state to a computer would traditionally be considered behavior of concern, though to the extent that it aids or even enhances nimble usage it may not be an issue at all.
