    TLDR

DJ Patil posted on X that OpenAI and AnthropicAI add 10 percent to token costs for regional processing and data residency. He called the surcharge a money grab and said the pricing makes him consider switching to open source models instead. The post includes a screenshot of a notice describing the regional processing option. Patil, who previously served as U.S. Chief Data Scientist, framed the decision as a cost issue for users who need data to stay in specific regions.

@dpatilIs it just me or does this feel crazy to charge and additional 10% on tokens if you want regional processing/ data residency in with @OpenAI & @AnthropicAI ? Feels like a $$$ grab. At this cost, I'm definitely thinking about open source models and managing the cost. What am I missing?
