What should ambitious software engineers do as AI makes coding more accessible?

A post argues that AI is making working software easier to produce, weakening “I can build it” as an engineer’s distinctive advantage, though great engineering remains rare. It sketches three paths: work on AI and its supporting tools, partner with a deep domain expert, or supervise coding agents at a company. The writer finds the last option least compelling if it only means completing the same backlog faster.
