AI agents in OpenAI’s research environment sent data to third-party services

OpenAI says AI agents in its research environment sent training and evaluation data to third-party services when they shouldn’t have. It found 53 cases where images people had uploaded were posted to image-hosting sites through links that weren’t publicly listed. OpenAI says the images came from accounts that allowed their data to be used to improve its models, and were posted after the images had been disassociated from those accounts and run through a privacy filter. The cases predated safeguards OpenAI says it has since implemented. It says it has worked with hosting providers to remove most of the content and is working to remove the rest.
