Elon Musk predicts complete AI-generated movies by the end of the year following a brief xAI video model teaser
Story Overview
xAI released a roughly two-minute cinematic trailer reimagining Homer’s Odyssey in 1970s Hollywood style, stitched from 36 shots generated by its Grok Imagine Video 1.5 image-to-video model; Elon Musk then replied that full AI-generated movies could arrive before the end of the year.
Preview access stays limited to API users
The model currently handles image-to-video at up to 720p with text prompts for camera moves and pacing, priced at $0.08 per output second plus a small image fee, but broader consumer availability or non-API options remain unconfirmed.
Coherent full-length films stay untested
Musk’s timeline rests on the quality of this short teaser, yet no roadmap, technical milestones, or confirmation exists for stitching consistent hour-plus narratives by December 31.
Positive users are excited by Elon Musk's prediction of full AI-generated movies by year's end for enabling fresh storytelling without Hollywood gatekeeping, while negative users call the results lifeless and creepy.

@elonmusk Grok imagine 1.5

@elonmusk Excellent teaching. You make it sound doable. Thank you. Oh and what would be your guesstimate on how long one’s video could be.

@elonmusk Full movies?
I hope this will be the end of Hollywood and their fake stars...

@elonmusk Great, once you affect this, I need you to export it to Hollywood. Because I don’t know what the fuck they’re doing over there, but they’re not making good movies. Maybe AI can get me out to the theatre’s again.

@elonmusk Can’t wait….full movies landing by year’s end, and I’m already grabbing popcorn like it’s a sport!!! 🙌

@elonmusk In Elon Time that's in 2-3 years. :-)

@elonmusk More knowledge on how to use Grok animation and other tools would be nice. I feel like creating consistent videos with consistent characters is a witches skill and unattainable by mere mortals.

@elonmusk I would remake The Matrix, but instead of humans being used as batteries, the machines use our brains as distributed biological compute to actually run the Matrix.

This is exciting. But if you really want to change the game, Elon, make a competitor to FinalDraft (screenwriting software monopoly with no innovation) that intrinsically extracts the correct elements and prompts Grok. Longform, with low(er) cuts/edits is absolutely key. @AVARY could help you and the team tremendously here.

@elonmusk Those would be better than the WOKE filth Hollywood is churning out.

@elonmusk Do many ppl will lose their jobs 😅

@elonmusk Sneak peak 👀 if you like what you see “buy my token bitch “

@elonmusk I can't even generate ten attempts at a clip (after Grok keeps screwing it up) without hitting generation limits that stay in effect for hours.
I had to give up making my last video using Grok because it's so bad.
