Model Y buyer says Tesla’s FSD handled the drive home

An owner who once felt Tesla’s Full Self-Driving was oversold calls the newer experience a “personal Waymo” and compares the leap to progress in AI.

    TLDR

One new Model Y owner says they picked up the car at Tesla’s Fremont factory, entered an address 30-plus minutes away and got home “without doing a thing” using FSD. They describe FSD in their earlier Model 3 as “slightly better cruise control” that felt oversold, but call the newer experience a “personal Waymo.” Their broader argument: people may underestimate both FSD and AI if they judge them by their experience with early versions.

@arampellI just bought a new Model Y and can confidently say cars and Teslas are no longer the same product. A car is like a pony or horse. I still like driving a stick shift, it’s fun! Tesla with FSD is a transportation robot. I had one of the first Model 3s in 2017. FSD was basically slightly better cruise control. Great on the highway. But honestly felt oversold. So I have been driving a BMW for the past 3 years. Great horse, fun to drive. But tried FSD recently and holy shit — it’s a personal Waymo. Works perfectly. I just went to the Fremont factory to get my new car, entered my address 30+ mins away, pushed a button, and got home without doing a thing. I don’t think most people realize how good this is, probably because they only experienced an early version previously. This is 1000x better. Metaphor for AI writ large. Like trying GPT 3.5 and thinking it’s cute and hallucinates, and dismissing it…while Astra launches in 2026 and is orders of magnitude more capable.
@sarthakgh@arampell im a regular waymo user in austin. love it. I just got a test drive for model y with fsd on for an end to end 20 min trip (including heavy traffic, signals, highway, parallel parking). couldn't agree more. I was blown away. literally is personal waymo
@justindrossI’ve been saying this online and feeling like I’m the only sane person in a room of crazies — self driving works! My 2025 model 3 has done practically 100% of my parking spot to parking spot driving for thousands of miles already. Austin to Dallas and back, including bringing me to a charging station on the way back. It just works
@dwrPeople who haven’t experienced the latest generation of FSD think you are crazy when you claim it completely drives itself.
@deedydas@arampell @lipko 10/10 been my experience as well. Drove a loaner Y and it's damn near perfect at self-driving in the Bay Area. Very difficult to justify buying another "car".
@elonmuskTry Tesla self-driving. It will blow your mind!
