    TLDR

On September 2, JoeJBenton said he had left Anthropic the previous week to join METR and work on embedded assessment of AI risks. He praised Anthropic, saying he had always known he would move on if something more impactful came up. A user quoting the announcement argued that more people should leave labs for METR or similar efforts, while stopping short of treating staying at a lab as generally the wrong choice for an individual.

@kipperriifeels wrong that more people from labs haven't left to join METR or similar endeavors. i don't think the optimal number is high enough such that it's probable that any individual should be wrong to stay at the labs but i'm pretty sure it's a much higher number than i've seen
