ADNOC signs OpenAI and G42 deal to bring Frontier AI agents into its operations

Abu Dhabi state oil company ADNOC has signed a multi-year agreement with OpenAI and G42 to bring AI agents into its operations, The Next Web reports. Announced during OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s visit to the UAE, the deal calls for ADNOC to use OpenAI Frontier, a platform for building and managing AI agents.

The first planned application is oil-and-gas field-development planning. ADNOC says the system could produce a complete development plan in hours rather than the months the process currently takes, according to The Next Web. Human experts will remain responsible for overseeing major decisions.

OpenAI models will be combined with ADNOC’s industrial data and run on computing infrastructure provided by G42 in the UAE. The companies also plan to connect operations from production and refining to sales and trading, with agents analyzing supply, demand, prices and profit margins before crude oil is extracted. The Next Web reports that the companies have not disclosed the agreement’s value or a rollout date.
