the personal finance product openai launched is actually one of the worst personal finance tools i’ve ever used in my entire life. borderline hazardous for people with low financial literacy to be using
i had chatgpt tell me everything it messed up:
OpenAI's personal finance product was criticized by user khushi for multiple data processing errors that produced inaccurate income, inflow, and spending figures. Specific failures included missing 47% of visible incoming funds, understating income by 88%, relying on one month of data while referencing an 18-month period, treating 23% of inflows as non-income transfers, and issuing spending judgments before inflows were correctly classified. The errors remain limited to the single user's dataset.

Many users criticized OpenAI's personal finance and health tools for major inaccuracies and a flawed chat-first interface that lacks baselines or interactive widgets, preferring dedicated banking apps instead.
No Digg Deeper questions have been answered for this story yet.
both chatgpt health & finance products leave so so much to be desired. they’re fundamentally misconstructed imho.
forget the model messing up, it’s just kinda frustrating that everything by default is delegated to a chat first interface. chat works well in open ended queries like search & curiosity but absolutely sucks in other categories where the context is broadly familiar but not *clear*.
e.g. in health & finance, ppl rarely want to cross examine a blank text box about their own life. what they want is a system to know the baseline, watch the deltas, & flag the weird stuff. most of the time i want to forget shit like this & just live my life.
i guess it all makes sense cuz when you’re a bicycle company, every problem looks like a bike problem even when the answer is obviously a car or even a bus.
again chat is great for exploration. it’s atrocious as the primary ux for ongoing life management. the real consumer leap in ai software is actually replacing the need to ask in the first place.

@signulll @ShanuMathew93 true actually, there should just be proactive genui dashboards for everything

there is a large gap between connectors, skills, and software
technique is more than half of technology. we oughta communicate this fact. hope is not a plan

@signulll @ShanuMathew93 tbf UI, chat, dashboard themselves are a dumb intermediate step when the real game is that your finances are magically automated

@khushkhushkhush wow, you had it do a Maoist self-criticism session. Intense

@tszzl @ShanuMathew93 you should use our product. ☺️
@signulll Did you actually try the finances one?
It creates a full dashboard and tons of hidden UI that I wouldn’t classify as a chat interface
Not quite a hands off set it and forget it, chat does lack the proactive notifs. But it’s already way better than most budgeting apps

@tszzl @signulll @ShanuMathew93 Claude sometimes (even umprompted) visualizes answers in interactive, clickable ways, which feels so refreshing bc its not just premade static tools for x or y, but custom interfaces shaped around the specific request
could and will get a lot better but right direction

@tszzl @ShanuMathew93 & actually save/make you money automatically too.

@khushkhushkhush how does this even happen lmao i just give openclaw a csv download and it gets everything ~100% right

@ryanbrewer @TheStalwart i can send you the chat link, it’s pretty bad man

@flowersslop @tszzl @signulll @ShanuMathew93 having "user prefers use of visualiser tool" in personalisation makes claude so nice to use
@NickADobos yup, i have it. try tapping on any item.
it doesn’t feel right overall.

@mahirsabharwal instant and pro both made similar mistakes
@khushkhushkhush @TheStalwart In my recent experience, gpt is great at coding, and rubbish at facts, like so bad that we dropped it from our factual review process.

@taylor_jrj2012 @TheStalwart thank u for inspiring me to post evidence instead of just being a hater in my original tweet lolol

@khushkhushkhush @TheStalwart What model / mode was this?
I’ve been impressed by perplexity computer with plaid

@tszzl @signulll @ShanuMathew93 “taxes just automatically done for you” would be an insane thing to drop in like mid january

@khushkhushkhush Ah damn that’s disappointing it seemed cool
