OpenAI launches Grid Protectors program to cut future data center power use when grids are strained

OpenAI intends to use its still-developing Effingham County campus as a pilot. It estimates that 1,000 megawatts of flexible demand response is equivalent to the average electricity demand of roughly 700,000 households. For future campuses, the company plans to work with utilities to agree on how much power use can be reduced, how quickly and for how long.
